What is an .AEA file?
AEA files are audio files saved in the ATRAC1 (AEA) format, which Sony developed for use on early MiniDisc players and other ATRAC-compatible devices. The format stores compressed audio data, balancing smaller file sizes with reasonable sound quality for music and voice recordings. AEA files were designed specifically for ATRAC-enabled hardware and are not widely supported by standard media players.
You may encounter AEA files when transferring recordings from MiniDiscs, accessing legacy ATRAC music collections, or working with archived audio from Sony devices. File Viewer Plus can play AEA files and convert them to MP3 or M4A formats, making them compatible with a broader range of devices and media players.
