What is a .JXR file?
JXR files are images saved in the JPEG XR (Extended Range) format, a format developed by Microsoft to provide higher-quality images with better compression than traditional JPEG. Introduced in 2009, JPEG XR supports features such as high dynamic range (HDR) imaging, lossless and lossy compression, and 16-bit color depth per channel, making it well-suited for professional photography and image editing. Its design allows for smaller file sizes while preserving fine details and color accuracy, making it a strong alternative to older formats like JPEG and TIFF.
Although JPEG XR never became as widely adopted as other modern formats, you may encounter JXR files in specific Windows applications, digital cameras, or workflows that require HDR imaging or precise color management. File Viewer Plus can open and convert JXR files to other widely used image formats, including JPG, PNG, TIFF, and BMP.
