What is an .RAW file?

RAW files are raw images captured by various types of digital cameras, including models manufactured by Panasonic, Casio, and Leica. These files contain data exactly how it was captured by the Charged Coupled Device (CCD), which is a sensor on the camera. Since the files are saved in an uncompressed format to preserve image quality, they are typically large in size. Professional photographers often prefer working with RAW images since they store higher quality images that can be more accurately edited than compressed images.

Even if you are not a professional photographer, you may still encounter a RAW file. You might receive a RAW image from a friend or download it from an image-sharing website. In either case, File Viewer Plus is a great tool for opening and editing RAW images. You can also convert the files to one of several more common image formats.
