What is an .XFACE file?
XFACE files are small bitmap images saved in the X-Face format, which was designed to include a user's picture or avatar in email messages and Usenet posts. They typically contain a 48-by-48-pixel, black-and-white image that is compressed and encoded as text for inclusion in an X-Face message header. The format was particularly popular among Unix and Usenet users during the 1990s and early 2000s.
