Online Activation vs. Offline Activation
File Viewer Plus Enterprise licenses can be activated online or offline. At the time of purchase, you specify which option you'd like to use.
Online Activation
The software connects to its online Internet activation server to activate and renew licenses. This type of activation requires an activation key (delivered at time of purchase) and network access to https://lic.fileviewerplus.com on port 443 to complete activations for your systems. When your subscription renews, the software automatically refreshes the license over the Internet so that the license is valid for the next subscription period.
Offline Activation
The software activates licenses without an Internet connection, and both an activation key and an enterprise license file are required. If you choose this activation method, an enterprise license (.lic) file is delivered to you after purchase, and it must be placed in the license\ directory of the software installation, as shown below. Each time your subscription renews, you receive a new license file that must be propagated to all computers.
Next, activate your license using one of the methods provided in the deployment guide.
Online and Offline Activation (version 4 - older version)
License activation for version 4 has these differences:
- Online activation connects to sharpened.com instead of lic.fileviewerplus.com.
- Offline activation uses an enterprise license file, but it can be located anywhere on the system and is only needed at the time of license activation.
- Offline activation license files expire after an agreed duration, at which point you can request a new file to activate additional licenses.
- Activated licenses are valid on the system perpetually.
